Woodhall Wine Cellars

2016 Cabernet Franc

Woodhall is a 33-year-old boutique family winery dedicated to producing fine table wine for the Mid-Atlantic region. At Woodhall, we can offer the complete wine and food experience. We currently produce twelve varieties, plus several limited-quantity speciality wines. Woodhall wines are tasted in a rustic, historic tasting room fashioned from a 1850's carriage building and corn crib. Much of the original wooden-pegged, mortise and tenon post and beams, and two "harness traces" (Ask us what they are when you get here!) remain. The tasting room now opens out onto a 30' X 34' covered deck in full view of the vineyard. The laid-back atmosphere makes tasting fun and relaxing, and comfortable chairs and tables both inside and out beckon to those who have time to stop and share a bottle or sip a glass.

Practices & Techniques

Woodhall wines are fermented in small lots to keep the fruit from each vineyard separate. This facilitates a blending process that takes full advantage of “terroir” (the effects of climate and soil on the fruit) which allows for the maximization of quality. The wines are aged in barrels, tanks and bottles until ready for consumption. Woodhall wines must be of impeccable quality to reach market and are never released prematurely.

Woodhall wines have been awarded many accolades. Our Seyval, Riesling and Copernica Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon were all selected as Best-of-Show wines at the Maryland Governor’s Cup Wine Judging; Woodhall’s Riesling was selected by the Goddard Space Center as one of three “40th Anniversary” wines; Maryland Public Television selected Woodhall’s Cabernet Sauvignon as its “30th Anniversary” wine; Woodhall’s Seyval was the “Aquarium White” of the National Aquarium in Baltimore and a vintage of our Cabernet Sauvignon was selected by the National Federation for the Blind as the dedication wine for its training center in Baltimore.
