Wind Rose Cellars is a premium producer of Italian style wines. We hope you can stop by and taste some of our Award Winning wines. During the day we offer wine tasting, wines by the glass, regional beers and offer a simple bistro menu. Tasting are typically finished by 5pm. At night, we are a wine bar, serving 12+ wines by the glass. Friday and Saturday we offer live music for the many local musicians from around the Olympic Peninsula.

Our tasting room is located in downtown Sequim, WA on the beautiful Olympic Peninsula. We have additional parking in the back.

Wind Rose Cellars is a joint project of husband and wife team David Volmut and Jennifer States. We began making wine professionally with the 2009 Harvest. Our main focus at Wind Rose Cellars is making top quality wine from Italian varieties grown in Washington State. We produce wines made with Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Primitivo, Pinot Grigio, Orange Muscat, just to name a few. Many of these varieties are very difficult to find in Washington. From the varieties we make, many are around 100 cases per lot, with a total production of around 900 cases.


We began making wine with the 2009 vintage. During the 2009 vintage, we made wine at Olsen Estates winery in Prosser, Washington. As the assistant winemaker, David was allowed to make wine for Wind Rose Cellars in addition to his regular duties. In 2010, we made wine while working at Sun River Vintners in Kennewick, Washington. Practices & Techniques

Our wine style is to let the grower and Mother Nature do their work. The decision to pick grapes is not based on Brix or sugar content, but more on flavor development and balance. The Italian varietals we use tend to retain more of their acidity than most grapes, such as Bordeaux or Rhone varietals, so the wines tend to be more crisp and fruit forward by design. Neutral barrels tend to hold onto these flavors and allow a roundness to develop. The natural tannins found within the grape skins themselves offer structure and elegance not hidden or masked by heavy oak.

With deep Italian roots, our wines are made from Italian varieties such Dolcetto, Barbera, Primitivo and Nebbiolo. These are found on the eastern side of Washington, from Red Mountain, Wahluke Slope and Yakima Valley. Grown in such small quantities, we continue to search and try new sites hoping to find just the right site. Our wine making style is to be true to the varietal where possible. Our focus will be on the fruit flavors and acids found within these varieties. Our reds have developed structure and depth, but should be approachable in their youth with fruit being the highlight.
