Tunnel Hill Winery
We think of enjoying wine at Tunnel Hill as a bit of a homecoming. A chance to breathe. A return to the senses. When you visit our stone cottage tasting room, you stand inside the rocks of the Knapps Hill Tunnel just up the hill. Back in ’33 the tunnel was blasted and a few years later, the rubble was used to build this cottage. Thus our name – Tunnel Hill – from the center of a mountain, just up the road. We like it – sturdy, solid, and very much from the earth.

Estate Vineyards / AVA
The grapes for our flagship wines—Riesling, Syrah, and Pinot Noir—come from 7 acres of vineyards that were planted starting in 2001 on our family land on the south shore of Lake Chelan. We planted an additional acre of Viognier in 2012 and in 2013 added a small plot of Malbec to round out the mix. Look for these wines soon!
The Lake Chelan AVA is distinguished by a significant "lake effect" that creates mild and favorable temperature for surrounding areas, resulting in a longer growing season and reduced risk of frost.
Columbia Valley AVA:
In recent years, we have expanded our offerings by sourcing grapes from the Columbia Valley AVA. Our Malbec is sourced from Antoine Creek Vineyards, which is located just outside the Chelan Valley on the banks of the Columbia River -- a 20 minute drive from Tunnel Hill.
We have also sourced grapes from further south, where warmer climates add intensity to the reds grown. Our Cab Sauv and Merlot are sourced from Lonesome Spring Ranch located in the warm, well-drained Rattlesnake Mountain Bench near Benton City. Our Zinfandel (a component of our famed Setenta) hails from StoneTree Vineyard on the sunny Wahluke Slope.
