History
Practices & Techniques
Soil degradation is a major problem around the world and through biodynamics and careful farming practices we can reverse this problem and build healthy soils again.
The skill and art of farming is being lost due to our reliance on advice from chemical, fertilizer and agriculture companies.
Biodynamics is also about regaining this skill and being observant and confident in what is happening above and below the ground.
When we finish farming we want to be able to hand on the land in better condition than when we bought it.
Certified Demeter by the Biodynamic Research Institute Powelltown.
Estate Vineyards / AVA
Although the vineyard is granitic it does have the advantage of being on the border where the granite meets the red mudstone, giving the soil greater water holding capacity and the wine structure.
The finesse and elegance of Sorrenberg wines can be attributed to the fact that it is one of the highest vineyards on granite soil in the Beechworth region.
The varieties grown are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Gamay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The Rhino block named after Barry’s grandfathers vineyard was established in 2005 by Sorrenberg vineyard at an elevation of 595 meters. This is a dry grown block on granite soils.
