Smith-Berry Winery

About

All wines at Smith-Berry Vineyard and Winery are estate bottled, but our philosophy goes beyond conventional definition. Our grapes are hand harvested and fermented in small distinct lots. Our personal handling of the vines, grapes and finished wine allows the ultimate expression of our farm’s produce. The wine offering includes a wide array of varietals ad styles. We carry books, specialty foods and other souvenirs made in Kentucky. Enjoy a picnic under the pergola or on the grounds of Smith-Berry Winery.Enjoy cheese, jams, jellies, salsas and other Kentucky products. Winemaker

Vintner, Chuck Smith, has perfected the art of making unique and special wines.

History

In 1981 we purchased 180-acres in rural Henry County. Like many farm couples, our dedication and desire to stay on the land has driven us to implement a variety of farming ventures. Over the past 29 years, each new venture was designed to be profitable both monetarily and emotionally.

We started out milking a dairy herd and growing Burley tobacco. Other products have included a combination of direct sales of free range chicken, turkeys, organic vegetables and beef.

We are still farmers. We raise organic beef cattle, sheep, hay crops. We also raise organic vegetables for ourselves and for our events. We have replaced tobacco with grape growing and wine making.

Practices & Techniques

Our estate produced and bottled wines combine the latest in winery science with the tradition of small batch fermentation.
