San Pasqual Winery

About

San Pasqual Winery is a small, family owned winery located in La Mesa – just east of San Diego. Although the namesake dates to the 1970’s when the winery was located in the San Pasqual Valley, the winery was later “reinvented” as San Diego’s first urban winery, earning it a spot on Sunset Magazines’ list of “Hot 100 West Coast Trends.” The winery is now located in the industrial area of La Mesa, with offsite tasting rooms nearby in The Village of La Mesa and Downtown San Diego at Seaport Village. Our Wines: San Pasqual wines are hand crafted in small batches, using grapes sourced from local vineyards and renowned viticulture regions throughout California. Although our unique passionfruit wines (including the habanero-inspired “Hot Passion”), are consistent award winners at the local, state, and international levels, our wine list also includes a robust selection of award winning, traditional grape varietals and blends, including our 2010 Malbec, selected to represent California style Malbecs in Cahors, France - the “home” of Malbec. With annual production of 2500 cases, most of our wine is sold directly from the winery and tasting room locations, allowing a more personal connection with the people who enjoy our wines.

The Team

Owners Linda and Mike McWilliams have been residents of the San Diego area since the early 1980's. Originally from the Chicago area, Linda and Mike attended University of the Pacific in Stockton, and then completed graduate school at San Diego State. Upon graduation, they established professional careers in the area, with Linda serving as a speech pathologist for local school districts and Mike as an industrial psychologist. Their venture into the wine business began in 2009 when they purchased San Pasqual Winery, then operating in a small industrial space in Pacific Beach. The following year they opened San Pasqual Tasting Room and Gallery in downtown La Mesa, which instantly became a community gathering spot. After persuading the city of La Mesa to revise a zoning statute that prohibited “fermentation” activities, they moved winery operations to a renovated warehouse in the industrial area of La Mesa. After taking over winemaking duties for San Pasqual, Linda has won numerous awards for her wines, including gold medals at the San Diego County Fair, the California State Fair, and the San Diego International Wine Competition. In addition to running the winery, Linda and Mike are active in the San Diego County Vintners Association, with Linda currently serving as President.
