O'Farrell Country Vineyards

About

A true flavor of East Texas. That's what comes through at O'Farrell Country Vineyards. Step across the 100-year-old threshold into our barn, reborn as a tasting room, and you'll find wines that tell stories of a place. Their aromas and flavors speak of native-variety grapes grown in sandy, red soils or about fruits like blueberries ripened under the late-spring sun. All seven muscadine and four fruit wines are made right here by three generations of family members working together. We also grow 14 varieties of muscadine cultivars, and in late summer, we give you a chance to pick some for yourself. So come here and experience some native wines and East Texas hospitality in a beautiful setting where you can also enjoy freshly made bruschetta and other treats on one of our tapas platters.

History

O'Farrell Country Vineyards began in 2006 when we, Benny and Judy Moore, planted vines for a U-Pick operation that opened in 2008. The winery opened in 2011.

Before all of this, we had a great 20-year career in the Air Force followed by a 20-year career with International Paper Company. Along the way, our family grew by three married children and seven grandchildren.

Three generations are now involved in the work that makes O'Farrell Country Vineyards & Winery a success. This is a family affair. Not only our immediate family helps, but we are often joined by extended family and friends helping at harvest and with other activities. Volunteers are welcome!

Estate Vineyards / AVA

From our original 14 rows of vines, O'Farrell Country Vineyards has grown to include more than 60 rows and more than 460 plants. One thing is unchanged: All 14 varieties we grow are muscadines, cultivars developed over more than 100 years from this grape species native to North America. Our vineyard includes multiple varieties of both black and bronze muscadines.

Both Spanish and English explorers wrote about wild muscadine vines they found in North America as early as the 1500s, and it is the oldest wine grape in the New World. We're proud to make a truly American wine from the descendants of those native American vines.

Our primary wine grape varieties are Noble and Carlos. But, depending on the wine, our co-owner and winemaker Judy uses several others, such as Magnolia and Hunt.
