Howling Wolves Wines

About

Since 2004, the legend of ‘Howling Wolves’ has been steeped in a philosophy of producing only premium quality wines, for truly outstanding value, at our state-of-the-art winery in the Margaret River region of Western Australia. We pick only the world-renowned fruit from our Rivendell and selected Margaret River appellation vineyards. Then we draw on the exceptional winemaking skills and resources of one of Western Australia’s finest, contemporary wineries, vintnering a range of wines of premium quality - always varietally correct, choc-full of outstanding fruit and made soft, approachable, ready to open and enjoy now. Or, if you’ve really got the willpower, lay down for a decade or more. After many years at the Willyabrup winery location, the ‘Wolves' have moved north to a magical new lair at Rivendell Winery Estate on Wildwood Road, Yallingup. Now renamed ‘Howling Wolves at Rivendell Estate', It is breathtakingly beautiful and the perfect premium ‘wolf country’.

Winemaker

Howling Wolves chief winemaker, Cameron McPherson, notes our philosophy as a synergy between viticulture and winemaking: “We are ‘terroirists’. Believers that the vineyard is actually the ‘holy grail’ of winemaking and that most consistently great wine is first created in hallowed soil of the vineyard - in our case, the sacred of vines in a rare clutch of vineyards, in Margaret River.” This tradition of producing only premium quality wines of great character and fruit driven integrity is proudly showcased with every bottle of Howling Wolves. Enjoy!

History

A mythical Margaret River ‘wolf’ was not the inspiration for the Howling Wolves name. Rather, it was the founders’ love of American ‘Blues’ music, in particular their all time “hall of fame” favourite, the legendary Chester Burnett - aka “Howlin’ Wolf”. So, in August 2004 while listening to a howler of a version of “The Wolf is at your door” the ‘Howling Wolf’ brand was born - to be changed later that year to ‘Howling Wolves’, after discovering a tiny appellation called Wolfe in Germany, that disallowed the use of the great man’s moniker. But we all remember ‘the Wolf’ and lift a glass to Chester every time we open a bottle of our finest, first named in his honour. Now, in our 10th anniversary year, the Wolves are about to howl at Rivendell Estate and there’ll be a picture of Howlin’ hanging in pride of place in the Cellar Door.
