When I started out in the wine industry, I quickly fell in love with shiraz from the Barossa Valley, South Australia. However, it was the discovery of shiraz from Côte Rotie in France's Rhone Valley that would ultimately give me the inspiration to work as a winemaker.
Practices & Techniques
All vineyards are farmed sustainably using organic principles, yields are low/controlled, grapes are hand-picked, ferments use indigenous yeasts with some retention of stems and maturation is in Burgundian, larger format barrels. Minimal sulphur is used during the whole wine-making process and bottling is without fining or filtration.
Estate Vineyards / AVA
'The Blonde' comes from a vineyard in Stonewell, which consists of sandy loam mixed with quartz on a limestone base that gives the wine accentuated perfume and complexity.
'The Brunette' comes from a high elevation vineyard in Moppa, which consists of heavy soils of deep red clay and ironstone that give structure, longevity and reward from cellaring.
'The Redhead' comes from a high elevation vineyard in Moculta, which consists of very deep red friable clays over yellow clay that gives very low yields and intense levels of tannin.
