Todd Bostock began working at Dos Cabezas as an assistant (to then winemaker Frank DiCristofano) after the harvest of 2002. After a short apprenticeship with DiCristofano, Todd took over as winemaker for the 2003 vintage. Just after the harvest of 2006, Todd purchased the winery with the help of his wife Kelly & his parents Frank & Paula. The winery was moved to Sonoita Arizona, close to the Pronghorn Vineyard the family planted in Elgin the spring of 2004. A tasting room was opened in 2006 at the new winery location in the heart of Sonoita, Arizona.
As of 2009, our production has grown to just over 3,000 cases/year - with most of our fruit coming from Oregon wine pioneer Dick Erath’s Cimarron Vineyard (sharing a fence with what was the original Dos Cabezas Vineyard). The rest of our fruit comes from the Bostock’s Pronghorn Vineyard from which we produce 1 estate wine “El Campo”.

Estate Vineyards / AVA
The Pronghorn Vineyard was planted in the Sonoita AVA near Elgin, AZ by the Bostocks in 2004. At 4,800 ft. elevation, the vineyard has grown quickly over the years with 15 acres (of the 40 acres available) planted to grapevines. Our goal with this vineyard was to produce a distinctive red wine that would be unique to this spot on the planet. With that in mind, the vineyard is planted with a constantly evolving constellation of varieties we hope will come together to produce a deliciously balanced wine that tastes uniquely of this area. Currently there are significant plantings of Tempranillo, Mourvedre, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot, Viognier, Aglianico, Roussanne, Marsanne, Malvasia & Grenache Blanc.
The Cimarron Vineyard was planted by Oregon wine pioneer Dick Erath in 2005. At 4,300 ft. elevation, the vineyard has 38 acres planted to grapevines. Expertly managed by Oregon veteran Juan Alba, the vineyard provides super high quality fruit for most of our wines. Also planted to a constantly evolving constellation of varieties, this vineyard has major plantings of Tempranillo, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Sangiovese, Primitivo, Viognier & Picpoul Blanc. There are also many smaller blocks of experimental plantings of well known & esoteric varieties from Spain, Italy & France.
Dos Cabezas Winery:
Our winery is located in the heart of “downtown” Sonoita. This unique space, with a character typical of area has grown with us through the years. It houses our tasting room, crush pad, barrel storage rooms, bottling space, case storage & an apartment for visiting friends & family.
We make all of our wines here in Sonoita.
