Brunton Road Wines
Situated on the fertile plains of Gisborne, New Zealand. We love wine and living on the land and all our fine wines are crafted from the highest quality fruit grown on our vineyards in the Patutahi Plateau area of Gisborne. Located on the historic Matawhero Wines property, the charm of the old rustic building, along with a great vineyard setting creates the perfect surroundings to sample our fine wines. Gourmet antipasto platters and cheese boards are available at all times and we have plenty of outdoor tables to enjoy the vineyard setting. We also have live music on Sundays throughout summer.
Located on Riverpoint Road, off SH2 from Gisborne to Napier, just 10kms south of Gisborne City.

Practices & Techniques
"SWNZ is a holistic approach to grape growing.... SWNZ incorporates many features dear to the 'organic' movement (for example by recognising the importance of soil health and incorporating strategies to maintain it) but stops short of prohibiting man-made inputs..."
As an accredited member of SWNZ, we are required to self-assess using a sustainable scorecard and are audited each year for compliance. Our first vineyard audit was completed last year and we reached "Accredited Vineyard" status in February 2009.
Brunton Road also operates a biodynamic programme consistent with our philosophy of scientifically based minimal input viticulture. This includes no herbicide use in our vineyards.
Estate Vineyards / AVA
Our vineyards are situated in the Patutahi Plateau region of Gisborne:
BRUNTON ROAD VINEYARD
Brunton Road, Patutahi Plateau, Gisborne - Established 1998
Soil: Waihere Heavy Silt Loam and Kaiti Clay Loam
Grape Varieties: Merlot, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Viognier
Brunton Road, Patutahi Plateau, Gisborne - Established 2005
Soil: Waihere Heavy Silt Loam
Grape Varieties: Pinot Gris
Elevated views sloping towards Gisborne City, and a combination of Waihirere heavy silt loam and Kaiti clay soil, contribute to one of the premium grapegrowing sites in the Gisborne region
Patutahi Plateau is the youngest of the new appellations in the Gisborne region and this area runs west from about Kaimoe Road back towards the hills. It is generally a warmer and drier area of the plains and is less effected by sea breezes.
