History
In the winter of 1995, during a fortuitous trip to a local brewpub, Brock met Michelle and shortly thereafter, we found themselves on a lot of dates wine tasting in Napa. Spending time together amongst the vines and wines, it wasn’t long before the dream of owning a vineyard of our own quickly blossomed in both of our minds. On one fateful return trip to the Central Coast, we tasted our first glass of Paso Robles Zinfandel, and were immediately captivated by this voluptuous grape - and each other. We didn’t waste another minute, the decision to move to Paso Robles to start a business and life together was made over dinner and a beautiful bottle of Zinfandel.
Starting with nothing but determination and a dream, we searched until finally finding the perfect patch of land on the westside of Paso Robles. Twenty acres of steep hillside dirt never looked so good! Keeping our day jobs, we came home every night and tended to the nearly 15,000 newly planted vines - walking up and down our hillsides hundreds of times. The first harvest came unexpectedly early, thanks to very heavy rainfall. In 1998, we harvested enough grapes to make a mere 50 cases, and the very first vintage of Brochelle (Brock + Michelle) Zinfandel was born, and we officially became Bonded Winery #29 in the Paso Robles AVA.
Throughout the past twenty years, we’ve weathered the many ups and downs of the economy, the influx of hundreds of wineries in Paso, and the challenges of being a small, family winery – but we have never deviated from our passion and pursuit of excellence. We adamantly pursue enticing nothing but the best wines possible from our vineyard. We care deeply about every step of the process - from pruning, harvesting, bottling and absolutely everything in between. No detail is left unnoticed. We believe that love, indeed, is always found in the details. Our intention is that these fine points fully reveal themselves to you in each and every bottle we produce.
As we continue on in our journey, now with two sons added to the mix, we work harder than ever to give each vintage the time, attention, and pursuit of perfection it deserves. We feel blessed to create wines that enhance some of life's most simple pleasures. It is what gets us up in the morning, and sparks those crazy ideas in the middle of the night.
We’d like to raise a glass to everyone who has helped our dreams take root and prosper. Here’s a toast to dreams, passion, details, and the never-ending quest for them all!
Cheers!
