Having worked at wineries in the Hudson Valley, Oregon, and Washington, Ian landed in the Finger Lakes in 2003. While here his wines have earned two Governor's Cups, several 90+ point scores in the major magazines, and even been named as one of Wine and Spirits Magazines "Top 100 Wines of the Year." Barry Family Cellars is the realization of a dream to make only the wines he enjoys using the methods and techniques he feels appropriate for the vintage and variety. In addition to Barry Family Cellars, Ian maintains an active schedule as a winemaking consultant.

When not making wine, he enjoys spending time with his amazing wife Tricia and son Declan, as well as gardening, traveling near and far, collecting records and going to concerts.


Established in 2011 as one of the first "micro-wineries" in New York State, Barry Family Cellars released our first wines in 2014. We focus on making vinifera wines which reflect the vintage as well as the individual vineyards. We make our wines in an understated old concrete block building that is being restored by the family using recycled and reclaimed materials whenever possible. While some wineries relish in their modern equipment, we take pride in our salvaged and restored equipment. Our wines are made with minimal manipulation often unfined and unfiltered and always Vegan.

The Team

Long Island natives Ken and Hope Barry moved to Vermont and then to upstate New York in the early 70's to raise a family. With a background in architecture, design and construction, Ken's contributions to the winery and our "DIY" ethos have been immeasurable. First introduced to the wonders of wine while traveling through Italy as a young man, he's always been eager to help and to learn from his sons Ian and Brian as they've risen through the ranks of the wine industry.


We think wine competitions are completely subjective, and that you should drink what you like.

However, being the new and unproven winery that we are, it may be beneficial for you to know that Ian and Brian have been making award-winning wines in the Finger Lakes for many years. Ian's even made two wines that have won the Governor’s Cup for the best wine in the state of New York in 2008 and 2010.
