Armagh Vineyard

We are primarily a vineyard only selling the premium grapes we produce to high end wineries who bottle under their own label. Some of these wineries bottle the wine as a “vineyard designate” which means only fruit from our vineyard is in that particular bottle and has not been blended with grapes from other vineyards. Look for the Armagh Vineyard name on the label of those wines.

We bottled our Syrah under the Armagh Vineyard label between 1999 and 2006, while our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay were sold to a number of different wineries over those years. The 2005 Pinot Noir from our vineyard produced by Savannah-Channelle won Best Red at San Francisco Chronicle 2008 Wine Competition. Currently, we sell our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to Flowers Winery and our Syrah to Wind Gap Wines.

The Team

Owners, Jim and Gayle Crayne run the day to day activities in the vineyard with the help of vineyard manager Eric Neil. Eric and his knowledgeable crew use their expertise for the pruning, leaf pulling, green drop and harvest.

Jim does the majority of the farming including mowing, watering, sulfur dusting and spraying fungicide to prevent mildew from damaging the fruit during the growing season. Gayle is in charge of the administrative duties from the bookkeeping to licensing and filing necessary use reports to the county.

Jim and Gayle have two sons, Brandon and Jason. Brandon, the oldest is married to Jennifer and together have three sons. Jason and his wife Alynne have a son and a daughter. Gayle’s parents, Ron and Arlene McClure purchased the 190 acre property in 1976 from the Stan McDonald family. Originally a sheep ranch the property is now mostly grazing pasture to replacement heifers in the spring.

Practices & Techniques

Farmed sustainably and watered by drip irrigation from an existing dam, our premium grapes are sold to notable wineries. As part of the Sonoma Coast Appellation in an area known as “The Petaluma Gap”, these grapes enjoy a long time to hang on the vine and develop their intense flavors before harvest in the fall.
