History

One sip of California Pinot Noir was all it took! My life as I knew it would change forever.

Growing up in a large Italian family, some of my favorite childhood memories are of Sunday night dinners, which always meant delicious food, many bottles of wine and a healthy dose of spirited conversation. After graduating from college, settling in San Francisco, and spending almost two decades working in the finance industry, my creative side was never satisfied.

My wife Brenda and I met in 2001, while working parallel lives in the finance world. It was over a glass of wine that we started our path of building a family and setting upon a journey to craft the most delicious wine possible with the help of very passionate growers. We feel so fortunate to have relationships with some of the most genuine and talented people that farm several of the most prized vineyard sites in California.

We love what we do and feel so lucky to share it with many of you who enjoy unique wines made from special places. The early years of working harvests and collaborating with dear friend, Brian Loring afforded us opportunity and access to so much, in which we will always be forever grateful. This friendship and mentoring introduced us to vineyard owners with highly acclaimed properties growing world-class grapes.

These past few years have taught us so much and allowed us to refine our craft each vintage and create our own unique wine making style. It began with our very first vintage of A.P. VIN in 2003 from Garys’ Vineyard, located in the Santa Lucia Highlands. While only 150 cases of this special Pinot Noir was made, it was enough to win the acclaim of well-known publications. Today, we produce 2,000 cases of single vineyard-designate Pinot Noir and are focused on making wines of the highest quality. We believe this quality starts in the vineyard. From the location of the vineyard and the row orientation to the farming style of each grower, every element adds nuances and subtleties that result in what we think is a superior wine.

San Francisco, where we raise our family and craft our wines, has been our home for over ten years. Our urban winery is located in the city’s historic Mission District, that is famous and influential for its amazing food, art and music, and where our little corner of the world buzzes with exciting small business activity of all trades. When we’re not busy with the demands of wine, we immerse ourselves in our family and raising our beautiful daughter, Genevieve.

Lastly, Brenda and I are extremely grateful for your appreciation of our wines and for allowing us to follow our dreams. We invite you to visit us for a taste and hope you’ll reach out the next time your travels bring you to San Francisco.

Cheers,

Andrew Vingiello

Estate Vineyards / AVA

Kanzler Vineyard
APPELLATION: Sonoma Coast | REGION: Sonoma County

The 20-acre Kanzler Vineyard was born in 1996 as the dream of Steve and Lynda Kanzler. Once an apple orchard, the vineyard is located near the edge of the Petaluma Wind Gap known as the Sebastopol Hills. Soils consist of Gold Ridge sandy loam on a clay base and the microclimate is perfectly characterized by morning and evening fog, breezy afternoons and bright, but mild afternoon sun.

Ridgetop Vineyard
APPELLATION: Sonoma Coast | REGION: Sonoma County

Owned by Fred Schrader and Thomas Brown and managed perfectly by Ulysses Valdez, the Ridgetop Vineyard is located within a few miles of the Pacific Ocean in the town of Annapolis at 1100 feet above sea level. The maritime influence effectively moderates high temperatures during the summer and fall while its location on the eastern side of the first coastal ridge protects it from being engulfed by fog, enabling the vines to produce ripe, tropical fruit with ample acidity.

Garys' Vineyard
APPELLATION: Santa Lucia Highlands | REGION: Monterey County

Garys’ Vineyard is a partnership between Gary Franscioni and Gary Pisoni. Both families’ roots in the Santa Lucia Highlands are quite deep. Their families have farmed this area for over 100 years. Recognizing the region’s potential for premium wine grapes, the Garys turned their focus to viticulture, and partnered on the Garys’ Vineyard in 1997. This famous V-shaped, 50-acre vineyard is on the eastern side of the Santa Lucia Highlands, and is influenced by the cool ocean breezes and fog that blow through the Carmel and Salinas Valleys.

Rosella's Vineyard
APPELLATION: Santa Lucia Highlands | REGION: Monterey County

In 1996, Gary Franscioni planted the 50-acre Rosella’s Vineyard, named for his wife, on their estate property just 1½ miles north of Garys’ Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation of Monterey County. We have been sourcing grapes from this vineyard site since 2003 and believe that Rosella’s Vineyard, with Gary Franscioni’s exceptional farming practices, produces a unique wine representing the very best of the Santa Lucia Highlands. Santa Lucia Highlands has proven to be a world class appellation, and we are proud to offer a wine from this great vineyard.

Clos Pepe Vineyard
APPELLATION: Sta. Rita Hills | REGION: Santa Barbara County

Planted in 1998, the Clos Pepe Vineyard sits in the heart of the Sta. Rita Hills. This special property is perfectly influenced by the wind, fog, low temperatures and cool summers that allow us to produce wines unlike any in the world. The East-West valleys of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA pull cold air off the Pacific, and the sea-bed soils intensely limit vigor. Small vines, small clusters, small berries, and thick skins provide the perfect storm for producing exceptional Pinot Noir.

Turner Vineyard
APPELLATION: Sta. Rita Hills | REGION: Santa Barbara County

Planted in 2000, the Turner Vineyard is a 21- acre vineyard located in the northern part of the Sta. Rita Hills appellation, behind Melville and Babcock Vineyards, and just a stone’s throw from Clos Pepe Vineyard. Ryan Carr planted the vineyard in 2000 with a very complex vineyard design. The vineyard was extremely fun to layout because of its great landscape; a dry, sandy river bed valley floor, steep North and South hillside slopes, and mesa plateau.

Rancho Ontiveros Vineyard
APPELLATION: Santa Maria Valley | REGION: Santa Barbara County

Planted in 1997, the Rancho Ontiveros Vineyard is located in Central Santa Maria Valley, in the northern part of Santa Barbara County near Santa Maria and the famed Bien Nacido Vineyard. This extremely small, eight acre vineyard is owned by the Ontiveros family and farmed and managed by James Ontiveros (ninth generation Ontiveros family). The soil is comprised of Garey series, a clay and sandy loam. The vineyard’s east-west bench orientation run’s east from the Pacific Ocean, allowing an interesting meteorological ebb and flow between the mountains and the cooling ocean influence.
