Winemaker

Finally In 2006, the Amigoni's were ready to harvest their first commercial grapes to make their own wines. Every year a little more of their land was developed for grape growing with various other vinifera vines planted and tested. The Amigoni’s were officially, winemakers.

History

The Amigoni family has a history of winemaking. Grandfather Giuseppe Amigoni immigrated to central Illinois from Milan, Italy in the 1940's. Besides making his own barrels of wine, he would use his dump trucks from the construction business to retrieve Cali grapes from the rail yard and make deliveries to Italian Americans in the area. Many of the deliveries would not result in payment. Instead the payment would be made in person at Giuseppe's house where a glass of his outstanding wine would accompany the payment.

The Team

Our vineyard is owned and managed by the Amigoni Family for the past 10 years.

Practices & Techniques

MO has a limestone and shale bedrock base about 60 inches from the surface which is ideal for grapes roots. The surface layer of the land is black, firm silty-clay loam. The land is terraced and has a unique terroir that should allow very good ripening of the grapes, moderate air circulation and black limestone influences that will add to the complexity of the grape juice.

The vineyard is about 9 miles west of Warrensburg, MO. We have recognized that growing vinifera under the adverse conditions of the continental climate is challenging and against the grain. However, we have developed unique techniques that protect vines and push the envelope to be successful with the premium international varieties of grapes. Every growing season we learn another small piece of the puzzle to growing these varieties. Our wines represent accomplishment of persistence and bring you this wine that will change your opinion of Missouri wines.

Estate Vineyards / AVA

Amigoni Family Vineyards was established in 2000. Currently, the 10 acre farm has 4.5 acres of vinifera grapes. Vinifera grapes are the vine species that produces over 99 percent of the world's wines today. Vitis vinifera has been planted all over the world. It is native to Europe as well as East and Central Asia. There are estimated to be thousands of varieties of this species, some of the best know are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Riesling and Zinfandel. Amigoni Vineyards has the majority of the vineyard planted to Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Other vinifera varieties planted in the vineyard are Viognier, Mourvedre, Petit Verdot and Malbec.
