Wineries in Temecula, CA

Usually when people think of California wine regions, the rows of vineyards that most often come to mind are likely that of the Napa Valley Region but that is not fair to the Temecula Valley which has more than two dozen wineries and over 3500 acres of producing vineyards. Temecula is located about an 45 minutes north of San Diego on Interstate 15. It is an hour south of San Bernardino on Interstate 15, and about an hour south of Riverside on Interstate 215.

The region has been growing wine grapes since the late 1700s has been ever since growing. New wineries open their doors and pop their corks ever so often in the area.

Several of the wineries have been around in the region for many years, such as Callaway Vineyard and Winery, but the new ones around on the block have made a name for themselves too. From family wineries to giant estates, the vineyards along Rancho California Road in Temecula Valley are worth a trip during a visit to sunny Southern California. The closest airports are located in San Diego, 45 minutes south, and Ontario, 45 minutes north.  French Valley general aviation airport is located east of town. It is a popular location for small aircraft.

Here is everything one needs to know about the best local wineries.

These wineries are open year-round but there is a dormant period that runs stretches from the beginning of December through March.  During this time, the grapevines are pruned. Even though this does not’t make for a very picturesque setting, if you want to avoid crowds, then this is the  ideal time for you to visit. During the spring and summer months, the wineries see hordes of visitors, the tasting rooms are almost always full, and you can see numerous tour buses driving up and down Rancho California Road. End of May also sees the annual Balloon and Wine Festival.
