The United States have become one of the most important winemaking countries in the world. Blessed with regions where beautiful grapes can grow, the United States have the foundation to create delicious wine. Many knowledgeable winemakers have used this and they are now making top-quality wine. There are more than 200 American Viticultural Areas (AVA) in the United States. An AVA is a designated wine grape-growing area. The boundaries are set by the TBB.
One of the American Viticultural Areas that have grabbed the attention of the wine lovers around the world in the last few years is the Wild Horse Valley AVA. This area covers portions of Solano County and Napa County and it includes a small part of the famous Napa Valley AVA. It is conveniently located in a place where grapes are exposed to more hours of sunshine compared to other regions in this part of California. At the same time, the Wild Horse Valley AVA is close to San Pablo Bay which means that the climate is slightly cooler and more humid too. This is one of the reasons why many Wild Horse Valley wineries are cultivating Pinot noir and other similar varieties of grapes.
This is a relatively small wine grape-growing region so there are a small number of wineries found there too. However, if you visit any of these wineries you certainly won’t leave this region disappointed. The beautiful scenery and the tasty wine promise memorable moments. Now let’s check some of the most famous Wild Horse Valley wineries.
First of all, we will mention the Wild Horse Vineyard, which is the largest vineyard and winery in this AVA. This winery is located in Templeton and as the name suggests it was built on a place where mustangs were living freely in the past. After a thorough research of the soil and other conditions back in 1981, the Wild Horse Vineyard was finally opened. Today, the Wild Horse Winery and Vineyard is offering more than a dozen of wines. They have white wines and red wines based on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and Viognier, Merlot and Sauvignon wine grapes. This winery is open for visitors all year long and offers inexpensive wine tours and wine tastings.
Heron Lake Winery is another popular winery in this region focused on making Burgundian wine varieties. The Vineyard includes Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes too. The first wine with a heron Lake label was made in 1985. This winery is located just 5 miles east of Napa town in the southern part of Wild Horse Valley. This is a very interesting region with the picturesque landscape.
Another winery worth mentioning is Tulocay Wine Club. This winery exists for more than four decades and it is best known for the Syrah, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines. People usually opt for the Tulocay reds because they are made to last for a very long time.
These are just some of the wineries found in Wild Horse Valley and if you are a wine lover then visiting this area is a must.
