When someone mentions wine regions in the United States, people usually think about Napa Valley or some other popular wine region in California. While it is true that there are some amazing wine regions in this state, it is also true that there are many other great wine regions that wine lovers should explore. If you are interested in visiting a region like this, keep reading because we have created a list of seriously underrated wine regions.

The Texas Hill Country

The Texas Hill Country is a relatively large region located in the area where South, Central and West Texas meet. Most of the 275 wineries in this wine region and 4,400 acres of high-quality grapes come from the Texas Hill Country. As a matter of fact, this is the second largest American Viticultural Area (AVA). Yet, for some reason, the tasty wines of this region are not as popular as they deserve to be. Most of the vines and the wineries in this region are following the traditional Mediterranean styles. If you are planning on visiting this region and you love red wines – try the Sangiovese and the Tempranillo. Those who are fond of white vines will certainly enjoy the Albarino and Marsanne.

Washington

We all know that the State of Washington is blessed with beautiful nature, but only a small number of people know that Washington is home to many vineyards. Winemakers in this region are practicing different winemaking styles and they use different grape varieties too. The production of wine in this wine region was started by immigrants that came from Germany, France, and Italy. The rich soil and the specific weather have proven to be good for the grapes. There are many interesting wineries around Seattle that you should check.

Coastal New England

New England is a region that includes six states, but if you are looking for good wine, you should focus on the coastal part of this region. The climate and soil in this area might not seem appropriate for winemaking, but it turns out that coastal New England has been producing premium-quality wine for decades. There are certain smaller areas in this region that are known for the excellent wine like the Coastal Wine Trail which includes nine wineries. Those who enjoy white wine should know that these wines are the main feature of all the wineries in coastal New England.

Paso Robles

The Californian central coast is home to a relatively small wine region that has still not gone mainstream. In case you want to visit a hidden gem that is not overwhelmed by tourists, you must check Paso Robles. This wine region has more than 200 wineries and in the past ten years, the land covered with vineyards has increased five times. Zinfandel is the most popular wine in this region, but wines like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bordeaux and Rhone are great too. Paso Robles has a great climate and many interesting natural beauties which make this place worth visiting.
