History of Missouri Wineries
Missouri has been producing wine for over 200 years, and by the mid 1880s Missouri vineyards were producing more wine than any other state in the nation. However, that success came to an abrupt halt once prohibition was enacted. Much of the land used for wine cultivation was destroyed, and Missouri wineries were put almost completely out of business.
Today, wineries in Missouri have bounced back with vengeance, and the state is once again leading the way for wine manufacturing in the heartland.
