Wild Earth Wines

About

Wild Earth is a Central Otago, New Zealand Winery. Our Restaurant and Cellar Door is located in the heart of Central Otago where we produce some delectable examples of the regions Pinot Noir, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir Rose. Wine Tastings are available daily and we also have catering available for any of your special events. Wild Earth Restaurant is a truly unique experience. Our goal is to create a true Central Otago wine and food experience, showcasing fresh New Zealand cuisine and Central Otago wines. Tapas inspired, we strive to incorporate both traditional and wild foods in each of our dishes that are carefully crafted around one of our mouth-watering wines. The menu is largely gluten free and can be tailored to your event, cultural or dietary requirements. Occasionally we will even catch your meal for you. The Wild Earth Restaurant is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of town or have a nice break from the open windy roads. You can enjoy a selection of tapas at your leisure or order our signature dish, the Oak Stave for your table to be shared with two or more of your friends & family. The Oak Stave is comprised of five dishes and you have the option of adding a wine tasting flight of five wines that perfectly match each dish.

History

Wild earth is a small family owned business that has been producing wines for over 10 years. 2004 was our first vintage but it was not until 2008 that the world started seeing us on the Pinot map and people started getting excited about their next glass of our mouth watering Pinot. The 2006 vintage Wild Earth Pinot Noir was awarded the Trophy for Best Red Wine and Champion Pinot Noir at the world’s largest wine competition: The International Wine Challenge in London. These awards, along with five other trophies that same year were the beginning of a string of gold medals for every vintage since. To be named Top Pinot Noir in 2009 by Cuisine magazine for the Wild Earth 2007 vintage was further testament to the wonderful terroir and our grapegrowing philosophies.

The Team

Quintin Quider: Owner

Born and raised in California, USA; Q as we call him, arrived in New Zealand in 1993. A keen outdoors man whose desire to escape North Americas fast-lane lifestyle brought him and his young family to New Zealand. A commercial diver by trade Q first started diving for Paua off the beautiful shores of Stewart Island before purchasing land on Felton Road in Bannockburn and establishing Wild Earth. His passion will always be the sea and rivers, but his dedication to Pinot Noir, his vineyard and team is now unsurpassed. Ever looking for a fishing partner or have any questions about Wild Earth and who we are, Q is your man.

David Harrison: Head Chef

Kiwi native David is just about as wild as the food he creates. Brought up in Auckland, he’s far from a Jaffa now. His mum and family largely influenced his cooking and baking. David likes to think out side of the box and has a great bond with Quintin “Great minds think alike” could be said! Quintin catches it, David cooks it... Anything about food or our menu David is down for your inquiries.

Samantha Gardner: Restaurant Manger

Born in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, Samantha made the big move to Central Otago in 2013 to start Working in the Wild Eart Restaurant. She is a great host for many of our Wild Earth Events and is often seen in the Restaurant and Cellar door giving the team the extra hand needed for your unique Wild Earth experience. For questions about events or parties don’t hesitate to contact her.

Wesley Quider: Sales and Marketing and Cellar Door Manager

Born in California, Wesley has moved between the US, Australia and New Zealand more times than he can count but looks like he's here to stay.

Wesley previously studied music and can be found in his spare time playing his guitars or with his giant bunny rabbit.

Moving from the Wild Earth vineyard to sales and marketing means Wes knows all the ins and outs of making and selling our wines from start to end. He's always there to oversee all the little details and get our award-winning wines out there!

Denice Veuthey: Finance Manager

Born and raised in Argentina, Denice has recently moved to Central Otago and is keen to call this great place home. Our hard working team player is often found tucked up with a cuppa, plugging away at the wild workload of an accountant.

Practices & Techniques

Just like the many other vineyards of the pristine areas of Central Otago, our pride and passion is our Pinot. Our clay, schist, silty loam soils and alpine climate produce a wine that is one of a kind. Each year the precious terroir gifts us lucious bunches of Pinot pleasure. With each exciting vintage we are blessed with a new understanding, as caretakers of this land. Our hearts bloom in Bannockburn's Felton Road and Lowburn. We are a small winery of 40 hectors total, growing predominantly Pinot Noir but also producing some wonderful examples of aromatic Pinot Gris, sweet and dry style Rieslings and beautiful Pinot Noir Rose’s. Our grapes are hand picked with love and we go to great lengths to ensure sustainable practices in our vineyards. We produce proximity 15,000 cases of wine a year and only use French oak for barrel maturation.
