Winemaker

ANTONIO SANCHEZ

Antonio Sanchez is the head of the house Toro Albala. With his own view of the world of fortified wines in Andalusia, he has been a revolutionary since the 60's. It gives importance to Don PX, so no time to blend the wines, to reach the prominence they deserve. Value found in vintage wines, something you learn in your tour of the French School of Bordeaux where he received training. He will return to earth to turn around the paradigm of Pedro Ximenez de Montilla-Moriles and bring them to Olympus of wines.

History

Bodegas Toro Albala was born in the heart of the Cordoba countryside in 1922. Our history is the story of a small farmer, José María Toro Albala, who had the brilliant idea to keep old wines for creating oenological jewels intended for palates more demanding. A philosophy that was implanted in family values and that are still preserved today. Quite a feat considering the situation of the time. This has earned Toro Albala a seat at some of the best tables around the globe.

Fine wines were the most consumed in the thirties by an Andalusian population attending neighborhood taverns and mostly devoted to work in the primary sector. At the time the winery was an old power plant in the area, giving play to the jokes of the Andalusians. They said the wine had electricity or was electric, hence the famous name to fine "Electric" which still sticks these days.

A generational change in the 60's had winemaker Antonio Sánchez take the brand and give it personality. Thereafter, he is committed to recover the treasures of growing and traditions in the world of wine. This nephew of the founder brings new airs of his training in European schools and the illusion of a project that he was involved since he was six years old.

The legacy of this vintner, inseparable from his glasses, is not only the creation of oenological jewels with style but a way to understand the culture of wine, surrounded by literary works, archeology or painting. All this without forgetting the constant aroma of Amontillado barrels that accompany them. He always maintained quality and the classic taste. His specialty is a very sharp amontillado and insurmountable Don PX .

Estate Vineyards / AVA

Bodegas Toro Albalá owns significant vineyard acreage in Aguilar de la Frontera and Moriles, exclusively Pedro Ximénez vines planted in chalky-white albariza soils. Grapes from older head-pruned vines are destined to the meticulous production of vintage and dessert wines, whereas newer wire-trained vineyards provide fresher fruit with brighter acids for the production of impeccably clean, complex and smooth Fino, Amontillado and Oloroso containing only the natural alcohol from fermentation.
