Winemaker

Paramdeep, better known as Param, is our winemaker. Originally an IT specialist in India, he learnt his winemaking skills only after he moved to Australia. He has now produced some of the Peninsula's best Pinot Noirs & Pinot Gris', and has won multiple awards. His constant companion is Sheeba, Nazaaray’s wine dog.

History

Paramdeep & Nirmal Ghumman are originally from Punjab, India. They immigrated to Australia in 1981 and bought their own patch of land. After five years of cattle farming, they felt the need to do something more with their beautiful location. So combined with their desire for a good pinot, they embarked on a new journey and planted their first vines in 1996.

Estate Vineyards / AVA

The soil, at Nazaaray, is fertile, red basalt clay slopes, located 150 metres above sea level. The rainfall makes irrigation unnecessary for the established vines, increasing the flavour intensity and complexity of the fruit. Cropping is at less than two tons/acre. The long ripening of the valley produces exceptional, high quality fruit, perfect for producing quality wines.
