History

Growing up in a poor district of Liverpool—a port city in England over 800 years old—a young lad named Malcolm Hutton emigrated to Canada in search of new opportunity after graduating from Engineering College. From there to the U.S. and then Korea, Malcolm rose to Project Engineer in the nuclear power industry, which would lead him, at various times, all around the world. Returning to the U.S. after Korea, he purchased a small, gravely farm in New Jersey—where the idea for a vineyard was first born. But after a compelling offer from a major power company, Malcolm relocated to Topsail Island, NC and continued traveling the world working on various projects. The dream of starting a vineyard was temporarily placed on hold until he stumbled across the Yadkin Valley wine region while working on a project in India.

Malcolm and his wife, Heidi, purchased their dream farm, sold their beach house and moved to the Historic Rockford area in 2002 to begin a new adventure. The two had met and fell in love years earlier, while both were working on the same refinery project in Venezuela. Heidi had grown up in Maracaibo, Venezuela—an old port city which is also the second largest city in the country. Ironically, Heidi's grandfather Wadsworth had emigrated from Yorkshire, England—less than 100 miles from Liverpool—decades ago. The rest, as they say, is history.

So together, two people from different parts of the world, but with common ties, come together to carve out a countryside vineyard and winery in the heart of the Yadkin Valley—surrounded by over 45 acres of grapes and a vision. Malcolm and Heidi invite you to share in their dream and experience the fruits of their labor.
