History

Oslavia is the cradle of viticulture of the Collio, the most important wine region of Friuli Venezia Giulia: it is here that begins the history of our company, with the deed of sale of the vineyard called "Meja" by Valentino Fiegl dated 1782.

The goal from the beginning has guided our work: to express and tell the territory through wine.

The Team

In the transition of the company from father to son, we have continuously invested in the wine culture to raise the quality of our products. Today the winery is run by two generations of Fiegl. The brothers Alessio, Giuseppe and Rinaldo have consolidated their vocation to the area producing red and white wines that enhance the organoleptic characteristics of the Collio soils, difficult to grow but rich in mineral salts. Thanks to their passion gave life and breath to unique wines in the world, authentic and faithful expression of the terroir of Oslavia.

The young generation, composed of Martin, Robert and Matej Fiegl, finishing his oenology studies brought enthusiasm, passion and innovative power, both from an organizational and qualitative, emphasizing even more the grapes and the wines Fiegl during the different stages of production .

Practices & Techniques

The grow style used in our vineyards ensures an environmental impact to the minimum levels: the productions are in small quantities, respectful of the natural capacity of the vine; in the vineyard we practice total grassing and use eco-friendly products; the harvest, as well as most of the cultivation operations, is carried out manually.

This way we guarantee to consumers the high quality of the grapes produced, destined to become wine that enhances the terroir expressed by cru of Oslavia and transmit the culture and tradition of the Collio.

The total area of our company is 30 hectares. The average is 5,000 plants present per hectare, the production is of 1-1.5 kg of grapes per plant. We produce 130,000 bottles a year, including red and white wines. We marry the union of technology and tradition, through the use of advanced tools which will fulfill the wines in the expression of the terroir. Precisely for this reason we use stainless steel tanks for the alcoholic fermentation and subsequent maturation of wines. For our Leopold line, refining and aging take place in oak barrels and casks.

Estate Vineyards / AVA

Oslavia garden of Collio:

Oslavia is our home. Country of one hundred and fifty inhabitants located on the eastern foothills of the Collio. Oslavia is a name that evokes mixed feelings, known for ruthless cruelty of the Great War and the nectar of Bacchus, the wine.

Area rich in history and stories , at the beginning of the country written in bilingual Oslavia / Oslavje express the presence of the Slovenian minority and the proximity to the Slovenian border is located just 200 m to the east. Food and wine of these places well represents the mix of cultures and human affairs.

Going up the street the view is stolen by an imposing white marble monument: Shrine Oslavia, built by Mussolini in memory to the myriad of Italian soldiers who died during the Great War. private boys of their future, sent to the slaughterhouse, for trivial reasons, to win a piece of land. The shrine contains the remains of 57,741 Italian soldiers killed in the Battle of Gorizia and 540 soldiers of the Austro-Hungarians. Every evening the bell '' clear '' chimes in honor of the fallen.

Leaving behind the cruelty of the Great War, there is inebriated with the enchanting landscape that opens before our eyes, the Collio in all its beauty. The presence of numerous vineyards hints at the special bond that exists between the farmer and the land, mutual respect now shared for centuries.

The windy microclimate, temperature changes and suitable temperatures are ideal for the cultivation of the vine, also favored by soil type, commonly called ponca . Land consisting of sandstone and marl layers of Eocene origin. The greatest expression of this union between people and nature is definitely the wine, I mirror the passion, the tradition and the dedication of several generations.

The Ribolla is the wine that more than others can synthesize this poem. A simple cup how people and the same deep as the history of this corner of Italy between sea and mountains, suspended between past and future, with a strong personality and individuality that fascinates you sigh for sigh.
