About

Arizona's wine industry encapsulates creativity and innovation. Vigneron John Mcloughlin doesn't just own a winery. In Willcox, Arizona the Dragoon Mountain Vineyard is carefully attended to by John himself. A stark difference between hot desert days and cool valley nights shape one of the world's most novel growing regions in SE Arizona at 4300 feet. With more than three decades experience from soil to the bottle, John Mcloughlin's rebel wine-making style has started a group of wines extending from the approachable to the esoteric. All are evocative of Arizona's unique terroir and oblige the wine drinking delight of connoisseur and novice. All grapes are sourced only from our family's vineyards in Willcox, Arizona. I wholeheartedly champion Arizona wines and believe there are many wonderful mysteries yet to be uncovered.

Winemaker

Arizona native and Vigneron John McLoughlin grows, produces and bottles all of the Arizona wines.

History

My family and I purchased 320-acres of dry, tumbleweed filled land 13 years prior down Kansas Settlement Road, truly in the middle of nowhere. Two years of plowing under weeds and breaking apart hard-tack dirt with an old US Army trencher, laying underground drip lines, setting columns for future growing, putting t-posts and hanging trellis lines, reflect today row after row of solid, green grape vines. These grape vines were all planted on our own hands and knees.

Practices & Techniques

Dragoon Mountain Vineyard is committed to the practice of sustainable viticulture. Our vineyard philosophy is based on two solid beliefs: little intrusion to the native environment and respecting the balance of the unique and delicate eco-systems that are located within.

Estate Vineyards / AVA

Dragoon Mountain Vineyard

Atmosphere and soil studies prove the region to be like Rivera Del Duero, Spain, Southeastern Australia, Southern France and is almost indistinguishable to Paso Robles, California. My family's vineyard in the foothills of Willcox rests in a most fitting area and in December 2013, our appeal for a unique AVA was approved and is currently in the rule-making process. We now hold about 400-acres and are growing 100 mixtures/clones. My vineyard is in itself a test to see what will grow and what will make world class wine.

Awards
