Camel Valley Vineyard

Camel Valley Vineyard

About

At Camel Valley, we’ve been producing award-winning, world-class wines in a beautiful corner of Cornwall since 1989. What is it that makes our wines so good? It’s really quite simple – an idyllic setting on sun-drenched slopes near the famous Camel River; excellent grapes that perfectly suit the soil and climate; a respect for traditional vineyard practices combined with a modern approach to wine making and, most importantly, a passion for creating wines that provide pure pleasure...

Winemaker

Bob continued as Winemaker, but now had a small team of full time staff to help in the vineyard and a new state of the art winery, and had started making Cornwall's first Traditional Method sparkling wine as well as still wines. His finest moment came in 2005 with an International Wine Challenge Gold Medal for Camel Valley ‘Cornwall' sparkling wine. ‘I was so proud to have won this, as our wine was up against the finest wines in the whole world and was the only gold medal awarded to a non-Champenoise wine. I really felt that I had set the standard for generations to come.'

History

When ex-RAF pilot Bob Lindo and his wife Annie planted their first eight thousand vines in 1989, they never dreamed of the phenomenal success they would achieve within 2 decades. They had bought their farm in the heart of the Cornish countryside several years earlier, seeking a change from service life and the perfect place to bring up their young family, and initially farmed sheep and cattle. Each summer they watched the grass turn brown on the sun-drenched slopes of the Camel Valley, and wondered if vines might enjoy such an aspect.

Estate Vineyards / AVA

The Camel Valley vineyard is in a fantastic panoramic location – high on the slopes of the valley, overlooking vineyards and surrounded by glorious countryside – and our two holiday cottages offer tranquil accommodation from which to explore. Both cottages, which are beautiful and comfortable barn conversions with plenty of character, enjoy stunning views over the vineyard and down the valley.

Awards

Sam and Bob Lindo have won many Trophies and Gold medals in International Competitions, including 3 International Wine Challenge Trophies and 5 Gold medals, and 2 Decanter Golds. They have won 4 trophies in the coveted Bollicini Del Mondo World sparkling Wine Championships and crowned sparkling rose World Champions in 2010 and 2011.
