Amelia Bleu Wines

About

Unlike most Woodinville wineries, Amelia Bleu has a rather unique feature -- Doug and Heather Roberts have their own vineyard. Situated outside Chelan, their six acres of heaven resides on a hilltop overlooking the mighty Columbia River. Their vineyard’s name is Ashlyn and it is the source of grapes for most of their wines including a red blend christened Riverenza as well as a delightful barbera. You could safely say that winemaker Doug is a true vigneron as the French say to describe someone who plants and maintains the vineyard and derives wine from his fruit. It’s a term that connotes prestige to the person involved from bud break to bottling. Interestingly enough Ashlyn Vineyard lies just outside the border of the federally designated Lake Chelan American Viticulture Area (AVA). Thus, you will note on the bottle’s label that the Riverenza and barbera wines are from Chelan County. While it is doubtful that most mortal palates can discern the difference between Amelia Bleu’s barbera and the barbera grown in the Lake Chelan AVA, the impact is perhaps felt more with the marketing of the product than anything.
