Paul began his winemaking career following his graduation from Princeton University, where he studied Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, and Romance Languages. In contrast to his eclectic academia, Paul has honed a direct and traditional approach to winemaking. Using classic non-interventionist techniques, he allows his wines to fully express the unique personalities of great vineyard sites.
Paul has previously worked with Robert Mondavi Winery and Neyers Vineyards in Napa Valley, Domaine du Vieux Telegrapher in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and Brancaia in Maremma on the Mediterranean coast of Tuscany. He trained alongside such luminaries as Ehren Jordan, Bruce Neyers, brothers Frédéric and Daniel Brunier, and Carlo Ferrini.
Alanté Vineyard is proud to have Paul Colantuoni as its winemaker and family friend.
Before long, the boys went off to college—Nico at Santa Clara University, Carlo at UCLA, and both at USC graduate schools. Bruno and Christine, now empty nesters, turned their sights on Napa Valley. The perfect blend of Old World charm and New World ambition, Napa Valley had always held a special appeal. In 1993, the family established Alanté Vineyard on a triangular lot in St. Helena, bordering Lodi Lane and the rustic remnants of the abandoned Northern railroad section connecting Napa and Calistoga. The vineyard bears established Cabernet Sauvignon vines that continue to improve with age.
Over the next fourteen years, Alanté Vineyard would perfect its single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon as a true family wine. While the bulk of its fruit yield was sold to premium Napa Valley labels, a small production of "pure" Alanté Cabernet was reserved strictly for family and friends. Upon the arrival of any grandchild, the family honors its newest member with their own vintage as reflected on the wine label. Thus 2002 saw the advent of Alexia’s Vintage, named after the family’s first grandchild. This special vintage was followed by Gianna’s Vintage in 2004 and Roman’s Vintage in 2007.
Over the years, the Van den Bosch family has received many requests that Alanté Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon be released commercially to the public. They finally agreed to do so starting with the harvest of 2006, and are proud to share their family tradition with you. The first shared vintage is now available to the public.
