One of the most popular tourist destinations in the US is the state of Florida. This is a state that is home to exotic type beaches, theme parks, and a host of tourist attractions that pull in millions of visitors every year. What you may not know is that the state is also home to a number of different wineries, which means that Florida wine tasting can be added to your to do list if you do decide to head south for some fun in the sun. The beauty of the state of Florida is that there is a winery or two nearby, no matter where you decide to visit.

If you are considering taking a little Florida wine tasting trip, you are going to have to decide which region it is that you want to visit. The state is essentially broken up into 8 different regions, each of which has a few wineries and a couple of different major cities located within. The beauty of this set-up is that you can choose exactly which city you want to visit, and then plan your winery visits from there. If you are feeling adventurous, you can plan on choosing a starting point and making your way along the coast on the Gulf of Mexico side, or perhaps the Atlantic Ocean side. There are a number of wineries located inland, too, with the majority located along one of the major highways.

There is actually a rich history of growing grapes and making wine in the state of Florida that stretches back centuries. If you want a little bit of a history lesson with your Florida wine tasting, you might want to consider paying a visit to St. Augustine, which is located in the northeast of the state, pretty close to Jacksonville. It is believed that settlers to that region back in the 1560’s found wild Muscadine grapes growing there.

What makes visiting wineries in Florida such a fun thing to do is the fact that you can actually spend some real time at each of the places you visit. The number of active wineries in Florida are a lot less when compared to other wine rich states, which means they are pretty spread out. Each of the wineries really goes out of their way to make the visitor experience special, and you will often find all kinds of special events taking place while you visit. There are festivals with food and music, but it’s the wine that always takes center stage.

Florida is very much set up as a destination state that does all it can to accommodate visitors. As such, you will find all sorts of information about Florida wine tasting in any of the visitors centers located along the major highways in the state. While you may be heading to Florida for one of the many other attractions that are on offer there, you will find that a day away from it all at a family-owned winery will help you relax and enjoy the scenery just a little more.
