Central Coast Wineries
Taking a trip along the wine trails of the US usually means getting into the country, where small towns surrounded by rolling hills are the order of the day. You are in for something a little different, though, when you visit the Central Coast wineries in California. The Pacific Ocean is never very far away, and you get to travel along a close to 300 mile stretch of highway that offers some of the most stunning landscapes you will ever see. It also helps that some of the coolest California locations feature along this beautiful wine region.
The Central Coast wine region starts in the north in San Francisco and winds south all the way down to Santa Barbara. It was actually the city of Santa Barbara and the surrounding area that somewhat put the wineries in Central Coast on the map, as it was featured heavily in the hot movie “Sideways” a few years back. People who saw the movie fell in love with the area that they saw on the big screen, and so the number of folks heading out that way started to climb. Once word started getting out about how wonderful this stretch of California was, it became a must visit region for wine lovers.
As mentioned at the beginning of this piece, this is a large region with a lot of amazing wineries and tasting rooms located within it. There are 9 different unique regions that exist within the Central Coast wine area, including the likes of Livermore Valley, Paso Robles, and the Santa Cruz Mountains. The San Francisco Bay area also falls within the borders of the Central Coast wine tasting region, which means you have plenty of different places to choose from when planning a trip to this part of the world.
One of the things that will jump out at you wherever you go here is that there is a lot of history attached to the area. The grapes that you find in this part of the state are among the oldest available, as Franciscan monks did a lot of the planting back in the late 1700’s. The small towns and villages that exist within the Central Coast region do so because of the positive impact that wine and the tourist trade have made on the area. California will always be where wine lovers go to get their tasting on, especially since there are so many incredible little wine trails tucked away in each part of the state.
This is a region that is known for its long growing season and beautiful afternoon ocean breezes. There really are few wine regions more scenic than this, and each of the Central Coast wineries that you will come across on your travels seem to do all that they can to maintain that high level of beauty. Yes, it’s a long stretch of wine country, but it’s one that you can take at a leisurely pace. There really is nowhere else like the Central Coast wine country, so be sure to pay a visit if you haven’t already.
